[Stiles gives Derek a 'you can't be serious' look, then blanches, moving to grab at the log.]
You suck, by the way.
[He knows he shouldn't complain, but he is going to, anyways. He hefts the log into his hands, and does his best to lift it over his head. It seems like it's going to go well, but as he takes a step, he loses his balance, his center of gravity thrown off. And there goes the log flying backwards, and Stiles sort of going into a flaily pile with it.]
[ Derek simply shrugs the comment off; he’s heard worse in the past. Usually from Stiles too, so there’s nothing new about an insult coming from him.
And… That went worse than hoped. The werewolf shakes his head and moves forward until he’s more or less in line with Stiles’ face. Clearly anything that involves a combination of upper body strength and general balance is now out from this point on. When he peers down there is a small look of concern on his face. ]
[ Derek remains standing on his spot, just long enough to give Stiles a decent look over before reluctantly nodding. He doesn’t step away until the teenager is back on his feet and readying up for another attempt. If he wants to go again, to keep going for the sake of getting this down, Derek’s not going to stop him. ]
Good.
[ He’s actually impressed by the result. A little concerned about how well Stiles is holding up physically but, impressed all the same. ]
[ Derek predictably shrugs the apology off. Sure, it's irritating when their personalities clash but it can't exactly be helped. Not right now when tensions are running high. ]
Don't worry about it. Come on, I want to find something to eat before it gets too dark.

[Sorry, Stiles just doesn't understand. He does, however, stand the log up like he would if he had an ax.]
See, I would need an ax, to uh--split it? [He makes the swinging motion.]

Pick up the log. That log is your axe. Swing it.

Need a hand?

No, I'm okay.
[He looks up at Derek with a bit of...realization, but settles into determination as he pulls himself back up.]
I'm going to try again.
[And so he does. This time, he doesn't fall, but he does lose hold of the log.
Then he tries again.
His muscles are trembling, but he manages it, this time.]

How are you feeling?

[He shakes his head.]
My arms feel like jello.

We'll call it here then. We can always do some short basic strength training tomorrow.

[He runs a hand over his mouth.]
I do appreciate this stuff, for the record. Even if I mouth off.

[ That walk alone will waste a bit of energy. So help him if he has to carry Stiles back to the campus. ]
It's fine. Just keep in mind that you're not the only one getting stressed during these sessions.

[Derek's comment causes him to flinch, ducking his head.]
Sorry.
[He didn't mean to be a burden; that's the last thing he wants to be.]

[He moves to follow after Derek, slipping hands into pockets.]
[ooc: good place to end, I suppose. RIP all EV threads]

[ Who knows what's out in the world right now. Probably best not to think about it and just keep walking. ]
[ ooc; Seems like it. RIP EV. ]
