[ Once again he starts going around and picking up the nails. Isn't this initial practice riveting? ]
You okay to keep going?
[ Attention-span obstacles in mind, he's willing to deviate from his usual training method. Keeping things short and frequent instead of marathon sessions every now and then. ]
[ Take away one sense and essentially train the others to adapt. Lose one’s sight; rely more on hearing and, in most cases, touch. ]
Make the most of it, this is the easy part.
[ Eventually they’d need to move onto planned scenarios, something in public with a lot of distractions. That was for another day though. He throws six nails and loudly walks whilst doing so. Two to the back, a third to the front-left, a fourth and fifth to the right, and the last one back to the front -left. ]
Fourth nail.

[ Derek shakes his head, regardless of the fact that the action can’t be seen. ]
Bad. Try again.
[ Once again he goes through the motions. Despite initially considering the idea of hints, he doesn’t want to lead the training too much. Which is why he doesn’t mention the nail number that Stiles did identify. ]
[ Second time is the charm right? Once again he tosses several nails out, this time loudly stomping in the other direction. First to the back-left, second to the front-left, third and fourth the front-right and the last one ends up landing next to Stiles. ]
Second nail.
[ If he starts humming a nonsensical tune while he's waiting for an answer, well, it's to place another distraction into the mix. ]
[Stiles is trying to keep his anxiousness down. This isn't easy for him, and it's getting harder. And that's a good thing, right? Derek thinks he can handle this, he can probably handle it.
He just has to try and focus.]
It's--front.
Front left?
[He brings his hands up to his hair, sliding through the strands. Come on, Stiles, you can do this.]
[ He doesn't give a response, just goes straight into another pattern. It's the same nail directions he did before, but backwards. First nail in the last nail’s position and so on. One again he makes noise during and afterwards. ]
[But the awesome isn't said with a ton of enthusiasm--at least it's measured for him. But considering Derek isn't one to give a lot of praise, he'll take it.]
[ He tilts his very slightly to show that he’s heard Stiles’ speaking. High praise isn’t really his style; he’s more about levelling his response in relation to the difficulty of the task. Set your enthusiasm too high and you’ll have nowhere to go when the ‘student’ improves. ]
That depends. Would you rather have one long lesson or several shorter ones?
[ He’s really asking whether Stiles wants to get it all over in one day or spread the lesson out over several. It’s not as though Derek has a routine to follow, right now he can adapt to whatever set-up they decide upon. ]
[ A short and simple nod as Derek thinks over the best way to approach the multiple day idea. ]
We’ll start with five lessons a week. Send me message whenever you’re free. If any lessons are leftover at the end of the week, we’ll be doing them on the last day.

[Stiles tries to think through it.]
To my left? Or--or no, front? front.
no subject
[ At least he's kind enough to repeat the nail throwing process for the second try. ]
no subject
[Does that work? He doesn't sound entirely sure.]

[He's doing okay. He feels a little tension in his shoulders, but somehow--]
It sound stupid, but the blindfold is actually helping me focus.
Maybe because I can't see.
[Takes out one of his senses.]

Front left?
[He's pretty sure he's wrong. But he does know one went over there, at least.]

[He listens better this time--he has to be right.]

Good.
[ Another pause as he double-checks on Stiles’ physical condition. He looks fine but that doesn’t stop Derek from asking again. ]
Still okay?
no subject
[He lets out a breath, then shakes his head. No making excuses. He can't do that during a fight.]
Let's keep going.

Fourth nail.
no subject
[But the direction he isn't sure about. And he says as much.]
no subject
[ As he's repeating the pattern he noticeably cuts back on the background noise. ]
no subject
[The lesssened background noise helps at least.]
no subject
[ He moves around in silence picking up the nails again. Only speaking once he's come to a stop by the side of Stiles. ]
Take the blindfold off.
no subject
Didn't do too miserably, right?
no subject
You did fine.
[ Better than he expected actually. ]
no subject
Awesome.
[But the awesome isn't said with a ton of enthusiasm--at least it's measured for him. But considering Derek isn't one to give a lot of praise, he'll take it.]
So uh--how often should we do this stuff?
[He doesn't know Derek's schedule.]

[Stiles debates the benefits of each for a few moments, before shaking his head.]
Several shorter ones.
[At least until he can get his ADHD under control. It's fine most days, but this sort of exertion does do a toll on his attention span.]

We’ll start with five lessons a week. Send me message whenever you’re free. If any lessons are leftover at the end of the week, we’ll be doing them on the last day.
[ That’s reasonable, right? ]

[Stiles nods weakly for a moment, then stronger as it settles.]
Yeah, I think that will work.
Thanks, Derek. Really.
[He gives another quick nod, and then starts for the door.]
