[ Derek nods before taking a step back to retain their starting distance. Decent fist, decent follow-through, just needs a little toning down on the limb motion. It's a simple enough fix. ]
You need to minimise your arm movement. Try again, slower, and think about how you're moving.
It's going to feel weird, you're used to doing to the other way.
[ Now it's just a matter of breaking the habit and retraining the movement. This time Derek holds up his other palm, an indication to try the other arm. ]
[Well he flushes slightly because that was a stupid mistake to make.
Still, he settles back into his positioning, and throws a punch. The first one is slow, still testing out the technique. Giving a slight nod of his head (more to himself than anything), he throws a second, faster, with more force behind it, then.]
[ Derek shakes his head before dropping the whole mistake topic. It was a simple error and he'll just assume that the conversation jump was due to Stiles' suffering attention span.
He gives his own nods after both punches. It's clear to see that Stiles is making progress in the arm department. ]
You're going to move in a clockwise circle around me, I want you to keep punching.
[ Derek gives Stiles another rotation after he's started to get the hang of things before trying to catch him out. A fight requires a person's full attention, there will be numerous things going on at once, hitting and moving is just one side of it.
There's also the enemy's movements to consider. Every now and then Derek starts to lightly kick out at Stiles' legs. ]
[Stiles is so focused on his hand movements that he nearly doesn't catch the first kick. It's hard, trying to break his focus between the two. Derek not warning him doesn't help--and that's probably the point.
The first kick catches him, but for the most part, Stiles is able to dodge, eyes making quick travels from Derek's face, to his legs, hands, just trying to anticipate any shifts that would indicate another attack.]
[ It is in fact entirely the point to keep the kicks as random as possible. No prior warning with as minimal movement as possible. An intelligent enemy will avoid broadcasting it's attacks and strike unexpectedly. This is just a warm up.
Derek does have a slight tell when he's about to kick, or really do anything, he tenses. Specifically around his shoulders and neck. ]
[ Derek raises an eyebrow. It's not that he isn't aware of the neck roll that he tends to do, it's just that a massage? Really? Who would do that for him? Peter? ]
It's up to you. If you're feeling tired, we can call it a day.
[ He's going to need a break from teaching anyway, a few minutes to try and figure out a plan from here on out. Once again, Derek kicks a leg out at random intervals. Just to make sure that Stiles can do the full exercise in both directions. ]
[Stiles is going to be at the end of his concentration by the end of this, too. He's getting better reading the signs, moving accordingly. It isn't perfect, but he's making improvement, and is a quick learner.]
[ That's really all Derek asks for during these sessions, that Stiles focuses for as long as possible and makes some sort of improvement. It doesn't have to be by much, it just has to be something.
He gives a short and simple nod towards the end of the rotation. ]
[ It's a safer answer than pointing out that they're sausages. They're not incredibly difficult to cook in the first place. Still he follows closely and keeps an eye on Stiles' movements. Makes a mental note to start with a few stretches next time. ]

So bascially you're trying to train the spaz out of me. Got it.
[He sighs and moves to punch again, trying to keep his arm from swinging in to large of an arc this time.]

[ The next attempt is better but Derek still steps for the intervene. Literally taking Stiles' arm and moving it for him a couple of times. ]
Feel the difference?
no subject
[Stiles pays attention to the way Derek moves the arm, and when he removes the touch, he tries again without the guidance.]
Yeah, I do. Just feels a bit weird.

--you seriously expect me to be ambidextrous in this?
[He doesn't throw a punch, just--
--wow, Derek. He isn't that coordinated on good days.]

Okay.
[He lets out a breath, and starts to do as he's told. It's awkward at first, but towards the second circle, he's settling into the motions.]

[Stiles does see the tell; he is commenting on it, in a round about way, really.
He stops, flexing his hand.]
Did you want me to keep going?
no subject
It's up to you. If you're feeling tired, we can call it a day.
no subject
No, I want to keep going.
[Stiles doesn't want to quit. He wants to prove he can do this.]

Derek gives a short nod before waving Stiles on. ]
Try going round the way.
no subject
Okay. Then after this, we should grab something to eat.
[Because he is going to need a break. Giving a solid nod, Stiles starts around the other way.]
no subject
Fine. After this round, we'll go and eat.

Good.

So sandwiches? Or I can cook us up some sausage.
[They can talk about their next session over lunch...dinner...whatever.]
no subject
Sausage. There were a few that had thawed the last time I looked.
[ Late lunch, early dinner. Either or. ]
no subject
I'm getting pretty good at cooking them, too.
[Stiles roll his shoulders back, shaking his head; he's going to be sore tomorrow, that's for sure. He starts towards the dining building.]
