[Well they could, but Stiles really doesn't want to deal with the stupid 'dance club' or whatever Scott and Jackson are involved with. That isn't his style. He'd rather get his ass kicked training in private.
He also trusts Derek with this more, anyways.]
Look, I'm just--I was wondering if you could train me. You know. Hand to hand. Self defense. The like.
[Allison offered, but getting his ass kicked by a girl isn't his idea of fun. She can help him with guns or something.]
[ Odd request given Derek's terrible fighting record and his history of using incredibly violent training methods. Something is clearly missing here. ]
[Well, Stiles shows up, stressed in a pair of sweat pants that really have seen better days. He just--hasn't been able to get a lot of clothing. Most stuff was ruined during the last dust up, so he's just been making due with what he could grab here and there.]
[ Derek on the other hand shows up in the least practical clothing possible, jeans and what appears to be a dress shirt. Instead of walking in like a normal person though, he sneaks in and then proceeds to just stand there. Counting how long it takes for Stiles to notice. ]
[It takes Stiles a minute, but he starts feeling a wary sensation creeping up the back of his neck. He turns, and instead of jumping, as he might have, a long time ago, he just lets out a sigh, spreading his arms out.]

MESSAGE: Before you say anything
yes I have other friends and yes I know I bug you for favors a lot.
But I was wondering if you'd do something for me.

Why?

And honestly, that's like my number one thing on this. Scott keep shacking up with that stupid training group and I don't trust any of those assholes.

Okay.
But you have to listen to me. If you start questioning everything that I ask you to do, that’ll be the end of it.

[ Yes, this is relevant to the whole 'break easier' thing. ]

[He came close, twice. But he survived.]

Still think you're 'easily breakable'?

It causes him to pause, for a moment. There is a spark of pride in his chest, because, well...Derek is right.
And he was surprised that he even would say it; but he appreciates it.
He also isn't really cool with the idea that Derek died, but hey, he doubted Derek would want him mentioning it.]
I guess not. When you put it like that.
Thanks. I mean--in advance.

[ Literally. This part of the conversation never happened as far as he's concerned. ]

So...when do you want to start?
[See? He's not mentioning it.]

action?
I guess you'll just smell me out, right?
action!
[ In other words, yes, but he's not going to admit to smelling anyone. ]
action!
action!
action!
Really?
action!
